BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, welcomed the President of the Republic of the Uzbekistan for a viewing of the production facilities at the new BYD Uzbekistan Factory in Jizzakh. The factory represents BYD's first overseas joint-venture new energy car plant. Driven by common vision for a sustainable future, BYD and the Government of Uzbekistan also signed an agreement prompting the start of a Green Transportation Initiative Cooperation.

His Excellency, Mr Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with other distinguished guests joined Mr Yu Jun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Uzbekistan, Mr Wang Chuanfu, the Chairman and President of BYD and Ms Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, to witness BYD Uzbekistan Factory's first mass-produced new energy car roll off the line, a BYD SONG PLUS DM-i CHAMPION. During the occasion, His Excellency, Mr Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Mr Wang Chuanfu signed on the first mass-produced new energy car.

Formation of the new BYD Uzbekistan Factory follows BYD's joint-venture announcement with Uzavtosanoat JSC (UzAuto) in December 2022 when the first plans were revealed about a shared vision to popularize new energy passenger cars in Uzbekistan. The following year, in September 2023, BYD signed an Investment Agreement with the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, initiating the implementation of a full-scale manufacturing facility producing BYD new energy cars in the country, with the joint venture also pledging investment in advancing employee training and skills development.

In January 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was welcomed to BYD Global Headquarters in Shenzhen by BYD Chairman and President, Mr Wang Chuanfu, to attend a ceremony witnessing the preliminary launch of new energy vehicle production at the BYD Uzbekistan Factory.

Just six months on, the BYD Uzbekistan Factory is formally commissioned on 27th June 2024. It now embarks on mass production of BYD new energy passenger cars for consumers in Uzbekistan. Initially, this commences with two of BYD's best-selling PHEV models and their related parts, namely the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i CHAMPION (C-Segment SUV) and the BYD CHAZOR CHAMPION (Sedan) both equipped with pioneering BYD Super DM Technology. In the first phase the facility has an annual production capacity of up to 50,000 units. Vehicles produced in the BYD Uzbekistan Factory will also be exported to countries in Central Asia.

Besides, BYD and the Uzbekistan Government also exchanged the Green Transportation Initiative Cooperation Agreement, supporting the transition to new energy vehicles in Uzbekistan. Within the Agreement, BYD in conjunction with the Uzbekistan government, will promote relevant regulations and certification policies for new energy vehicles in Uzbekistan, stimulating development of the entire NEV industry supply chain. Tashkent will be promoted as a model city for green transportation, and knowledge about new energy vehicles will be more widespread in Uzbek society.

Mr Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, expressed great pleasure that the BYD Uzbekistan Factory will now commence mass production of two best-selling BYD PHEV models in Uzbekistan. This is a major step forward in BYD's support for new energy vehicle transition in Uzbekistan and BYD expresses its gratitude to be joined by President Mirziyoyev and other esteemed governmental guests to witness this special occasion. The Green Transportation Initiative Cooperation Agreement underlines BYD's commitment to sustainable innovation in eco-friendly mobility in Uzbekistan.
